Historical event, post #2

How did historical events influence the ideas in the novel? What cultural issues may have influenced, challenged, or inspired the author?

Lots of terrible things happened to the Chinese people in the Chinese Cultural revolution but this book was written because of this historical event that had happened when the author of the book, Red Scarf Girl was a child. One of the main things that the people in the Chinese revolution  were trying to get rid of was the four olds, which are basically four events that were happening in the revolution that was really impacting the country. The authors childhood must have been really hard because of this revolution like she explained in the book. I thought it was a really good idea of Ji-Li writing this book because it is not only to be read as something to entertain yourself and to know about someone's life, but to also have some knowledge about the Chinese Cultural revolution and how was it for the Chinese. Overall I think that the Chinese cultural revolution was something that made me more interested about ancient China and wish to know more about it as the book goes on and that it talks about other events that happened in China.

  1. Hello Willem !

Great Post ! I agree with you that a lot of bad things happened to the Chinese people during the Cultural Revolution in China. Mao Zedong wanted to get rid of the Four Olds and change China's culture. He wanted to have new customs, habits and ideas. Do you think it is a good thing to change a country's culture and ideas ?

    Good Job !
