- Which ideas in your novel are connected to its particular setting, and which ideas are still relevant today?
As this story takes place in China when the cultural revolution has taken place, I think that there are many ideas that is connected to this interesting setting. One of the many ideas that this novel shows through its setting is; that you cannot trick a person forever. As in the setting of the novel presents that in the end of the Chinese cultural revolution Mao died and the whole thing has ended, Mao's plans and etc. However, Mao was somewhat successful because he has got to influence his whole population and made them believe in his belief. But, the problem here is that Mao didn't manage to influence his population forever. In conclusion we can clearly identify that this novel brings us a important idea that is still valid nowadays which is that you cannot trick a group of people forever.

Hello Jason ! Good Job !
ReplyDeleteI agree, the setting of the novel connect to the ideas presented by the author. The Cultural Revolution was a hard time in China and that affected how people viewed the country. I strongly agree with the your statement that you can't trick a person forever. I interpreted this phrase as " You can't hide the truth from someone forever ". Whether you're waiting for the best moment to tell them or whether you simply don't want to tell them, they'll find out someday. I agree, Mao Zedong was trying to convince the people that changing society was the best choice, he succeeded.
This theme that you brought up reminded me of the following quote " Three things can not be long hidden, the Sun, the Moon and the Truth ". I agree, it is hard to fake something for so much time. Do you think this issue will be a big one in the book ?
