The book, Red Scarf Girl, talks about a young Chinese girl that lived in China around the time the cultural revolution happened. The author, Ji-Li Jiang, wrote about her experiences during the time of the Cultural Revolution.
The first answer is quite obvious as the whole story happened around the time of the cultural revolution and the author's personal experience in the event. The main reason why the cultural revolution inspired the author to write this book, is likely to express the experiences she had during the time she was a child up until her adult years.
The cultural revolution influenced many people that were living there at the time and it definitely influenced Ji-Li Jiang which inspired her to write this book.
Throughout the book, we can see different events that happened in the cultural revolution take place in the book, which allows the story to have a real life connection.
