I decided to draw this because it shows Ji's black family past, but not just mentally. To me it seems as if this black past she has is not only in the mind, but because it is so easy to figure out about her past, its almost like a physical feature she has that stands out negatively from the others. Although this is true, I decided to draw her teacher as well due to the fact that not all people are that way, and some realize it is not Ji's fault at all that her grandpa was a landlord and that she deserves a chance. In the back is a former propaganda poster, which represents women having the same rights as men during the cultural revolution, this shows that everyone was equal during that time. Even so, Ji was segregated from the community for having "bad" family ties.
