Caroline Lopes - Blog Post #4 - Red Scarf Girl

Formative Blog Post #4
How does the protagonist change from the beginning to the end of the novel?  What does this character learn about himself (or herself) and about how the world works?

In this book the protagonist from the begging of the book until chapter 13 is learning a lot about herself, specially because of the cultural revolution. I think that a big part of her learning about herself takes a lot of place in her school. It is basically because her family didn’t really want her to know because she would be disappointed and ashamed, not only with herself but also with her family. So her family really keeps their past underground so no one knows about it. Through the story the protagonist, Ji-Li Jiang, discovers new thinks about her family a little bit at a time for example on the book Ji-Li discovers that her grandfather was a landlord and her father was a rightist. Both of these jobs were shameful at that time that the cultural revolution happened in China (Jiang - pg.90-92). Now in the book Ji-Li Jiang is trying to know what her father was accused of and have to stay in a type of jail until he confesses (Jiang - Chapter: An Educable Child).

I choose this image because the quote is talking about discovering how you are and it shows a path that their are some rocks but you have to try to find the happiness in the path that you choose.
