Connection Captain; Julianna Mello

The one thing that stuck in my mind while reading the next three chapters was for sure the da-zi-bao. A da-zi-bao translates to character poster. The poster expresses things such as political rights and laws for the people of china. To me this reminds me of something so simple yet our lives wouldn't have been the same without it. I am positive that everybody remembers the ABC posters in there classes when we were younger. As we got older it's not like we looked at it for help but the class just felt empty without it.  Students would know they were in school if they saw the ABC poster, people began to use ABC as a symbol for school. The da-zi-bao was just as big of their childhoods as the ABC's were for us.  In my opinion, this connection was simple yet affective.

  1. I agree with you Juli, the ABC poster was something we all grew up with, and with out its presence in the room as a kid, something felt missing. I think the same thing goes when it comes to the da-zi-bao. It was something that many children grew up with, and many adults had to adjust to. DO you think there is something in our lives, that we all had to adjust to?

  3. Julie,

I see the great connection you made with the da-zi-bao and the ABC poster. This shows how a simple poster/learning skill can affect someone's life so much. If we didn't have numbers or the ABC when we were younger, we wouldn't be as educated and linguistic. The da-zi-bao somehow influences the younger children to believe in what they, just as we would our parents when they told us to not do something when they were small. By having children exposed to these da-zi-bao might influence their perspectives about the world. This shows how children and teenagers can be influenced by the media so easily.

Overall, your post showed great connections with exciting information.

  4. Juli,
I would have never thought of that connection. And you were right! The ABCs are something so simple, yet so meaningful. I really think that was a great connection. On the other hand, I think it would help the readers if you wrote more, explained more about the da-zi-bao, and the connection between them and the ABCs. I also think you should make a direct connection to the book, and maybe even include a citation from the book.

Overall, i think your post was amazing, and it was very original, but more details would have made it better.

  6. Juli,
I think your connection was really good. The ABC posters were very important and useful to us when we were little, and the da-zi-bao posters were very important useful also. The ABC posters made an impact on our lives, and the da-zi-bao posters made an impact on the cultural revolution. Next time I think you should add another connection to push our thinking even further.
