Connection Captain
1) The first immediate connection I made was to the book the Giver. A common situation I found was that the Elders and Chairman Mao are trying to make the place where they live good for everyone, but they do not realise that they are restraining the people from advancing technologically, economically, and socially. In both communities the people were restrained in the way's they were able to think and do. They were only permitted to think "inside the box" stopping them from being creative and innovative. Even though they try to do good they do more harm than they intend to.
2) The second connection I have made is the situation in muslim countries when it became mandatory for women to wear veils. Even though some people are religious and this rule does not bother them others who are not muslim are forced to do what they want to do. This does bothers me because people are being told how to life their life, what to wear, and how to act when they should live it how they want to. This situation is limiting their life style and suppresses their true will. In China during that time, you had to act how Chairman Mao told you to act because if you didn't you would be persecuted and judged for the remainder of time he was in power.
Good post Gabe I especially liked how you could relate to the muslim country law that women have to wear veils in there head, I also think that people should dress the way they want too. I also loved your image about the Arab Spring that is related to the revolution in many countries in the middle east and north Africa. What I really enjoy is that you keep digging deep in your ideas. It shows that you have a deep understanding in the subject, and that you know how to use the information. Anyways excellent post keep it up.

ReplyDeleteVery good post, but I want to point out what I think is your main high light. The first connection you made with the book "The Giver". The connection you made was really good because of the fact that you used especific examples from both books that are basicaly the same. Also the connection with the muslim country law that women need to wear veils .
